2001 Indiana State Fair

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2001 Indiana State Fair Brewers' Cup Competition! Thank you to those who helped make the Brewer's Cup a success, either by submitting entries, acting as a judge or being a steward.

With your support we are well on our way to making this competition a premier event in the Midwest. I am interested in your suggestions or comments to improve our competition. My contact information is listed below.

There were 176 entries this year, a whopping 35% increase over last year. Of these entries, 102 were homebrewed and 75 were brewed commercially. Be sure to save a few bottles of your best efforts to enter in next year's competition!

The 2000 AHA Competition 

Judging was held on June 22-24 at the National Conference in Livonia, MI. Ron Smith won a Gold Medal in the English and Scottish Strong Ale Category with the same beer that won the Gold Medal and Best of Show in the 1999 Indiana State Fair Competiton.

The club had three beers in this final round. First Round results were as follows:

English and Scottish Strong Ale Category
First Place: Ron Smith (English Strong Ale)
Second Place: Scott Whitaker (Scottish Strong Ale)
Spice / Herb / Vegetable Beer Category
Third Place: David Allaben

2000 GABF

LOCAL WINNERS OF GABF (submitted by Bill Friday, October, 2000)

Several breweries located within a couple hours drive of the Greater Lafayette Area won medals at the Great American Beer Festival.

• The Alcatraz Brewing Company of Indianapolis Indiana won a Gold metal in the Great American Beer Festival for their Alcatraz Kolsch. It won in the German-Style Kolsch / Koin Style Kolsch category.
• The Goose Island IPA (Chicago, IL) won Gold in the English-Style India Pale Ale category.
• New Holland Brewing Company (New Holland, MI) won Silver for its Mad Hatter Ale in the American-Style Pale Ale category.
• Flossmoor Station Brewing Company (of Flossmoor, IL) won a Bronze in the Specialty Beer category for their Pullman Brown Ale. Congratulations.
